Golden Opportunities for Independence also maintains a community resource dog program which brings dogs to local communities and the community together one pup at a time!

The Weiss Family and GOFI

The Weiss Team has been working with GOFI for the past several years including both fundraising and puppy raising. See what our pups are doing:

Flutie - Town of Sharon Community Resource Dog

The Weiss Family were the puppy raisers for Flutie, Sharon's CRD. Flutie joined our family at 10 weeks old. Flutie spent 4 days per week, 6 hours per day training at Golden Opportunities for Independence. On Saturdays, the family joined him for offsite training. The family was responsible for reinforcing the skills and behaviors learned. After 9 months, Flutie assumed his position with the Sharon Police Department bringing joy to many. Today, he lives with his handler, but still visits often!

Ace - Gloucester's Community Resource Dog

Ace joined the Weiss Family on March 15, 2020 just as the state entered "lockdown". Ace was the perfect quarantine pup who naturally provided support, comfort and love during stressful times. The Weiss family was responsible for all of his training through May until GOFI was able to reopen. Once his formal training began, Ace learned quickly. In November 2020 he joined Gloucester's PD where he will work in the schools as well as visiting local nursing homes. We are incredibly proud of Ace!

Foster - ALS Service Dog

We could not be prouder of our boy, Foster. He is now the service dog for a local man with ALS. Foster helps his recipient with tasks like opening/closing doors and retrieving items while providing love and companionship. What an amazing boy!

Maverick - Service Dog In Training

Meet the newest member of the Weiss Team, Maverick! Maverick has all the key ingredients to be a great service dog -- he is smart, eager to please, excited to learn! He has already mastered many of the core commands - sit, down, stay, leave it! Maverick will continue to train at Golden Opportunities and learn the skills he will need to move on to do great things!
